It didn't happen in one day. It wasn't like a common cold that just starts hurting one day and hurts for a few days, but then goes away. No it took months for this sickness to develop and there is no cure. It's not something that just happens, and definitely not something that just goes away...
She was young, only twelve years old. How could something so bad happen to a twelve year old? She was so innocent and had her whole life ahead of her. She dreamed of being kind, sweet, loving and unforgettable. She dreamed of having friends and living a life full of joy and love. She later learned dreams are mere fantasies. Day after day it got worse. She didn't know what to do so she pushed it away. Her hope faded but she still believed in her dream. She fought bravely. She prayed. She begged God to take the pain away and replace it with hope. But no answer. Her hope faded every time she felt the sting of the knife called depression, cut one slice deeper. One day she was done, She walked to a stream near her home. She dangled her foot in the running water. "Maybe it will be a quick death" she thought. "Maybe it won't hurt...If I just close my eyes, and dunk my head, it will all be over." Her face hovered above the water. Her heart made it's final beats. She could hardly breath. Then she heard it. A voice. "Child, is this your life to take? Is it not my decision anymore when you take your final breath? It it now yours?" She froze. No, it was not her life to take. Yes He still got to decide when she took her final breath. She pulled her head away from the water and began to run. She couldn't take a life that didn't belong to her.
The years passed. Death continued to knock on he door but she could never bring herself to answer. When she was sixteen she stepped back and looked at her life. She then learned dreams were only hopeless fantasies for young children who did not know better. She was not sweet, loving and unforgettable. She was mean, hateful, and no one remembered her. She didn't live a life full of joy and love but a life full of sorrow and hate. Her depression had gotten so deep that she no longer felt anything. She could not even cry anymore. Her life was lonely and so was she. She had one friend. He knew her well and watched depression eat her away day after day. He tried to help, he really did, but his efforts were useless. He saved her life a number of times and never knew it. But eventually he stopped trying. She stopped talking to him about real things and only told him lies. One warm July night she lay in her bed. The darkness of the night enveloped this lonely helpless girl. For four years she let depression eat her away. She didn't know any different. She made one last attempt at talking to her friend. But he had stopped trying with her and pushed her away. There she was, laying on her back, in the dark, friendless. She got up into the dark and walked to her fathers room. She could here his heavy breathing as she opened his dresser drawer. The cold metal of a gun touched her skin. She felt shivers down her spine, but took it anyway. She tip-toed out of the house and back to the stream. The same stream her face hovered above when she was twelve. She placed the barrel of the gun on her head. Death knocked on her door one last time and this time she answered it...
This story is inspired by true events. The good part is, is it didn't end that way; it just simply could...
